Its a Bugs Life - But Someone Has To Do It

Two technicians from the Hervey Bay office recently returned from a working week on Fraser Island as part of an ongoing contract to inspect buildings belonging to Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services.

The work, which is undertaken every three months, ensures that important buildings on the island such as the Sandy Cape lighthouse built in 1870 are protected from pests.

Amalgamated Hervey Bay Manager David Knowles said the coastal location of his branch made it an attractive destination for fellow pest management technicians.

“I frequently receive calls from pest inspectors in other parts of the state, inquiring whether there are any opportunities to join our team.

“I don’t think we would ever have any trouble attracting new recruits, particularly if we included some of the photos of Peter and Max’s trip in the job advertisement,” David said.

As for the bugs...we are happy to report that these historical buildings remain in the same pristine condition as the unspoiled natural environment that surrounds them.
