Our tropical climate provides an ideal breeding environment for such pests as termites, cockroaches, ants, fleas, ticks and rodents, just to name a few. Being north of the Tropic of Capricorn requires a unique specialist approach to deal with the diverse pest problems faced in our area.
The new standard for professional pest management in Australia is PestCert. PestCert is an industry based, non-profit independent accreditation program. The main focus of PestCert is to help households and businesses identify Pest Management Technicians and Businesses that provide the highest standard of professionalism, Amalgamated Pest Control is a PestCert accredited business.
When it comes to termites, it is recommended by the Australian Standard 4349.3 that a full Timber Pest Inspection is conducted at least every 12 months by an accredited Pest Management Technician. Living in the tropics problem species of termites include Mastotermes darwiniensis (commonly known as “Mastos” or “Giant Termite” and Microcerotermes sp which is a smaller pest species but can also cause damage to homes.
The damage caused by termites is not covered by insurance companies and nationally the damage bill runs into the millions of dollars which far exceeds the damage cost of natural disasters.
Cockroaches also breed very quickly in the Top End with some species having 3-4 generations in one year which enables large infestations being created very quickly. With regular treatment these can easily be controlled.
Ants, while more a nuisance pest, are known to invade our homes looking for water and can contaminate food and some even bite, treatments have proven to be effective.
Whilst protecting the family and house, we can’t forget our four legged friends by protecting the yard areas from Flea and Tick
